The purpose of this article is to analyze a first instance sentence handed down by a magistrate in the Federal Court of Paraíba, using Ducrot's Theory of Argumentation in Language as theoretical support. The aim was to study the polyphony of voices in legal texts, based on the observation of their textual organization. The analysis of this polyphony made it possible to point out possible strategies used by the legal operator in processing the text, the effects of meaning achieved and how the structure of the text was affected by the polyphony.
