One of challenges of the French dairy goat sector is to develop, promote and support the development of sustainable farming systems. French dairy goat farms are strong users of grass, used mainly in hay, but the feeding self-sufficiency of these farms remains relatively low (on average 61%). Greater use of herb is a technical solution to respond this societal demand, reduce feeding costs and the environmental footprint. On the 2015-2020 period, a strong mobilization of Research and Development stakeholders in the PSDR4 Flèche to understand the grass use place and level in dairy goat farming systems, to determine its technical and sociological pros and obstacles, and to provide scientific and technical knowledge. This project has made it possible to acquire new knowledge on the use of multi-species grasslands by dairy goats, their use level and the nutritional qualities of milks and cheeses. Associated with agricultural education, the agroecological transition of goat farms can take place to make them more sustainable, more competitive and more resilient to hazards, especially in a context of climate change
