Through participatory work and by mobilizing breeders, advisors and scientists, the objective of the CASDAR CAPHerb project was to support breeders in the agroecology transition of their food systems, towards more use of grass with better quality. To do this, the project responded to recurrent technical questions around the ingestion and fiber content of grass, and the obstacles, motivations and know-how linked to the production and use of grass. Tests showed that the milk production of goats is only reduced for limited access times to pasture (less than 6 hours). Recommendations were provided to breeders and technicians, in order to better control diets based on ventilated hay, wrapping or semi-complete mixed rations. Finally, 130 surveys highlighted the obstacles and motivations for the use of grass, as well as the needs (tools, training, communication materials) of breeders and advisers to initiate the change towards more grass.
