This scoping review aims to map and synthesize the existing literature on the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) as an educational tool in mental health teaching for medical students. The review seeks to identify the main trends, pedagogical approaches, and research gaps regarding the integration of EHRs into mental health curricula. Additionally, the protocol will evaluate the impact of EHR use on the acquisition of clinical competencies such as diagnostic reasoning, therapeutic planning, and patient communication. The methodology employed will follow the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines for scoping reviews. The review process will be conducted in several stages: Definition of search terms: Controlled terms (MeSH and DeCS) as well as free terms such as "Electronic Health Record," "Mental Health," "Medical Education," and "Clinical Competence" will be used to ensure a comprehensive search. Identification of relevant studies: The search will be conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, with the objective of capturing pertinent literature on the use of EHRs in mental health teaching. Importing citations: All identified citations will be imported into the online tool Covidence, to streamline the screening and data extraction process. Screening of titles, abstracts, and full texts: Screening will be conducted independently by two reviewers, who will examine the titles and abstracts of the identified studies. Full-text reviews will be conducted in the second phase. Any disagreements between the reviewers will be resolved through discussion, with a third reviewer consulted if necessary. Reference screening: In addition to the selected studies, references from included articles will be examined to identify additional relevant studies that may have been missed in the initial search. Use of PRISMA-ScR extension: The review will follow the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines to report the study exclusion process, with clear justifications for each exclusion. Data collection, synthesis, and reporting using JBI SUMARI: The data extracted from the included studies will be collected and summarized descriptively using JBI SUMARI. This tool will help organize and manage the data extraction and synthesis process. The results will be synthesized through a narrative analysis, focusing on identifying the main trends, pedagogical approaches, and research gaps in the literature, with an emphasis on the impact of EHRs on the acquisition of clinical competencies.
