AbstractOur contribution explores the dialogue between Posy Simmonds’ (1999, 2000 for the French translation) and Anne Fontaine’s (2014 French film) Gemma Bovery, and Gustave Flaubert’s novel Madame Bovary (1856-57).We explore the presence of dispositives when one medium is shown within another, we analyze the presence and the place of the book Madame Bovary as an object in Posy Simmonds’ Gemma Bovery; we also comment the film’s credits, a true “programmatic introduction” and, in parallel, the final sequence of Fontaine’s film, as well as the film’s French and American trailers, in order to better encompass their symbolic stakes.
