The 21st century is an era that has witnessed tremendous growth in the field of information and communication technology (ICT). The advances occasioning this have led to the virtualisation and digitisation of the teaching and learning environment in various fields of education such as the sciences. This article thus focuses on the usage of technologically mediated learning environments such as provided by the e-Learning platforms for the dissemination of learning contents, and the deployment of these innovative technologies for the conduct of practical via the usage of virtual laboratories. e-Learning is the use of electronic technology to deliver education and training, monitor learner’s performance, and report learner progress, with the aid of a Learning Management System (LMS). The virtual laboratory is an online virtual experiment system, based on web and virtual reality technology and this can be deployed to provide learners with the desired laboratory experiences in science courses. It is suggested that institutions of learning, governments and stakeholders in the education sector should embrace these innovative approaches for effective and purposeful provision of learning and training in science courses for learners.
