Dichomeris carpatiella Kovács, Kovács & Buchner, sp. nov . is described from the alpine zone of the Făgăraș, Cibin, Parâng and Retezat Mountains (Southern Carpathians, Romania). The new species inhabits south-facing rocky habitats with junipers in the highest regions of the Southern Carpathians. The larva feeds, hibernates and pupates between spun needles of Juniperus communis L., and may be attacked by the parasitoid Pimpla turionellae (Linnaeus, 1758) (Ichneumonidae). It is closely related to D. juniperella (Linnaeus, 1761) and D. marginella (Fabricius, 1781). Another closely related species, D. dolomiella Huemer, sp. nov ., discovered in high montane to subalpine dwarf-shrub communities on scree-rich dolomite substrate in the south-eastern Alps (Friuli-Venetia Giulia and South-Tyrol, Italy), belongs to the same species-complex. Adults, male and female genitalia and the habitats of the two new species are described and figured. Molecular data and some details of the biology are given.
