Abstract This chapter examines the linguistic and sociolinguistic features of Angolan Portuguese (AP), highlighting its emergence as a distinct variety shaped by contact with Bantu and Khoisan languages and Angola’s multilingual context. It outlines AP’s historical development from colonial to post-independence periods, emphasizing how language policies and social dynamics have influenced its evolution. The authors analyze phonological, morphological, morphosyntactic, and lexical features and processes commonly found in the variety and that differentiate it from European and Brazilian Portuguese, noting internal variation across regions and social groups. The chapter also discusses ongoing processes of standardization and the role of education and media in shaping linguistic norms.
