Abstract

🔑 Keywords (Deutsch) CRTI Strukturelle Kompression Frühwarnsignal Kritische Übergänge Kippunkte Kovarianzstruktur Spektrale Entropie Effektive Dimensionalität Komplexe Systeme Systemkollaps Fold-Bifurkation Zustandsraum-Geometrie 🇬🇧 Description (English) This figure presents the Compression–Response Transition Index (CRTI) as a conceptual framework for the early detection of critical transitions in complex systems. In contrast to classical early warning signals such as rising variance or autocorrelation, which typically emerge late, CRTI focuses on the structural dynamics of the system’s state space. The index is defined as the ratio of recovery dynamics R(t) to effective dimensionality Φ(t), where Φ(t) is derived from the spectral entropy of the covariance matrix. A decline in Φ(t) indicates a loss of degrees of freedom and thus structural compression, preceding observable amplitude-based signals. The figure contrasts classical scalar indicators with the structural perspective introduced by CRTI, illustrating how systems reorganize toward collapse before fluctuations become apparent. CRTI is designed as a mechanism-specific early warning signal for fold bifurcations, extending existing approaches by explicitly incorporating the geometry of the covariance structure. 🔑 Keywords (English) CRTI Structural compression Early warning signal Critical transitions Tipping points Covariance structure Spectral entropy Effective dimensionality Complex systems System collapse Fold bifurcation State space geometry
