Public forests in Lorraine represent an important patrimonial and economic challenge. Their productivity was assessed recently with two different approaches that enabled to clearly define their ability to produce really harvestable wood. Moreover, Office National des Forêts started, after the 2001 and 2005 laws, a significant shift in the processes used to sell the wood: the novel selling process in the frame of negociated supply contracts enable a direct supply of the companies in the wood chain over several years. Significant progress was reached in this direction, but they still need be consolidated in the frame of the new performance contract 20121-2016 signed between the state, the National Association ofForest Communities and ONF.
