At the request of the French Government, the report #FBRI2025 focused on research, development, education and innovation in the forest sector. It aimed at proposing projects that can have an impact by 2025. The article begins by situating this mission in relation to previous work on forestry policy and research and to the similar mission that had been carried out just before for agriculture (#AI2025). The main propositions of # FBRI2025 are then presented. These are, first, 13 projects grouped in 3 complementary axes and forming a coherent whole: Consider the forest sector as a system; Develop the uses of wood in an industrial competitiveness perspective; Renew and adapt forest to its future environment. Second, the report documents the overall weakness and dispersion of funding for research and innovation in the forest sector. It also points to the modicity of innovative financing and the need to pursue methodological research on this subject. Finally, the proposals of #FBRI2025 are put into perspective by reference to the development of the bioeconomy.
