Abstract
Since ancient times, Mongolians have translated from Indian and Tibetan literature and written as its, as well as creating new epics and fairytales based on those texts. Chakhar gevsh Luvsanchultem (1740-1810) translated “Novel of Prince Arthasiddhi” by Banchin Luvsan-Ish (1663-1737), teacher of the 7th Dalai Lama, in the Tibetan language, into the Mongolian language in 1781 and published it. This translation has been spread widely among Mongolians in written and oral form. The novel ends with the brothers Arthasiddhi and Amoka, the main characters of the novel, each becoming the king of each country, with one queen between them. This ending seemed strange to the Mongols, so they created a new tale about the marriage of King Amoka in the narrative style of a Mongolian epic with the theme of a traditional heroic marriage. In composing the novel, the narrative in “Bigarmijid King’s Story” about the wooing of the Flower Queen was used. The researcher believes that the epic was first composed in the western area of present-day Mongolia and spread orally to eastern part.
