The article discusses the availability of open access digital content, types and tools of open access, particularly the importance, methods, and global experience of forming digital institutional repositories, as well as the advantages that higher education and research institutions can achieve as a result, and the key aspects that need to be focused on when forming a digital repository. Additionally, comparative analysis of software tools aimed at forming digital repositories is provided.
