Background: Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in children under 5 years of age are the leading cause of consultation and hospitalization in tropical Africa and in Benin. Objective: Determine the frequency and identify factors associated with ARIs in children aged 0 to 5years hospitalized in Pediatric Unit in Benin in 2013. Methods: It was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical carried out in 2013, it focused on 306 children selected according to admission order. ARI diagnosis was performed based on chemical and radiological data. Results: ARI frequency was 77. 1% and mean age estimated at 19. 1 ± 14. 8 months. Sex-ratio was 1. 34. ARIs were significantly associated with the use of traditional energy sources for cooking (p = 0. 0002), the place of residence with regard to roads/tracks generating dust (p = 0. 0046), cohabitation with animals (p = 0. 0013) and passive smoking (p = 0. 0014).
