Acute respiratory infections (ARI) are one of the most common human diseases in the world with high morbidity and mortality. Viruses have a major role in the occurrence of this disease. The aim of this study was to inventory the viruses responsible for ARI in central Côte d’Ivoire. A prospective study was conducted from January 2018 to December 2019 in central Côte d’Ivoire among patients with ARI. Nasopharyngeal secretions were collected and analyzed using multiplex RT-qPCR. Of 647 patients recruited, 55% were male and 39% were infants 0-2 years of age. Of these patients, approximately 50% had cough, breathing difficulties, fever and sputum. 64% of the specimens collected and tested were positive for at least one respiratory virus of which 31 % were co-detections. The majority of viruses identified were Rhinoviruses 30 %, Influenza viruses (A, AH1N1, B, C)] 24 %, Respiratory Syncytial Viruses 16 %, Adenoviruses and Parainfluenza viruses (1-4) 7 % each. Some of the detected viruses were significantly associated with patient age. Except the viruses that were present throughout the year, Respiratory Syncytial Viruses appeared in the second half of the year with a peak in September. This study identified various viruses responsible for respiratory infections notably RV, RSVAB, inf (A, AH1N1, B), HMPVAB, AdV and HPIV3 whose epidemiological characteristics need to be determined for a better management of this pathology.
