The variety of stylistic tendencies of modern musical culture expresses itself in genre polystylism; the authors actively use other compositional material as a means of updating their own musical language. Interest in such composing techniques has long been manifested in Uzbekistan. The two piano cycles by the famous composer D. Yanov-Yanovsky – ‘Bagateli’ (2000) and ‘Silhouettes’ (2001) – are two approaches to the problem of polystylism, to the interpretation of musical genres and styles, which the author of the article uses. ‘Bagateli’ uses modern composing techniques, coupled with elements of styles of various eras and genres. Here, the unifying moment is everyday dance and instrumental genres. "Silhouettes" is the author’s different approach to polystylism through the genre of ragtime, which connects with a strong thread the works of many diverse composers - I. Stravinsky, M. Ravel, D. Gershwin, D. Shostakovich, C. Debussy, C. Ives, A. Schnittke. This trend has a long tradition going back to Schumann's Carnival. The individual features of someone else's style are combined with the author's own style of writing. Thus, the performer gets the opportunity to understand and feel the originality of the handwriting of each of the composers. Penetration into polystylism in harmonic, rhythmic coloring, in the sound of jazz rhythmic formulas, lyrics, grotesque - this is the result of the interpretation of two cycles of D. Yanov-Yanovsky, as the author claims.
