Following the ban of the neonicotinoid insecticide thiacloprid, PALPuF project (2018-2019) was performed to test fertilization as a means of controlling strawberry aphids, in combination with biocontrol strategies (natural substances, macro-organisms). On a strawberry hydroponic culture grown in a heated greenhouse, under a moderate Rhodobium aphid pressure, a fertilization regime based on nutrient solutions depleted in nitrogen and reinforced in calcium showed a significant limiting effect on the development of the pest populations. This result was not confirmed in production conditions on a crop submitted from January to the end of April to successive populations of Acyrthosiphon malvae, Rhodobium porosum and Chaetosiphon fragaefolii. A single spray treatment with thiacloprid ensured a rapid and long-lasting clean-up for more than a month. Spirotetramat did not show any efficacy on Acyrthosiphon malvae species, while pyrimicarb was effective on this species, but poorly active on Rhodobium porosum.
