Abstract

Sheltered strawberry production is confronted with a significant diversity of aerial pests, which requires a large number of phytosanitary interventions. The objective of this project is to offer to strawberry producers an global strategies, allowing a reduction of at least 50% of the chemical Frequency of Treatment Index (FTI), reliable and technically realistic. In order to identify these strategies, named "DEPHY", on the 6 years of the project and the 5 sites, on all strawberry pests, strategies combining biocontrol solutions (beneficials and biocontrol products) and products phytosanitary measures have been evaluated in comparison with a producer reference strategy. The objective of 50% reduction of the chemical FTI was reached in 75% of the cases on early culture (Gariguette variety) and in 50% of the cases on everbearer’s (Charlotte variety). With regard to commercial yields, on average over the 6 years of the project, there was no difference in yield between the DEPHY plots and the reference plots. The cost of the DEPHY strategies from 2013 to 2018, is higher than the reference strategy, on average 6.4 times on Gariguette and 4.4 times on Charlotte. The biocontrol strategies implemented in this project have led to the evaluation of numerous biocontrol beneficials and products. Results of these evaluations do not make it possible to propose reliable alternative strategies for all strawberry pests (in particular aphids and powdery mildew). Nevertheless, the technical and economic performances of the strategies have been progressed.
