The progress of librarianship, contributes to the formation of library teams, in which each specialist must be able to solve production, technical and communication problems at a high level, more actively involve employees of all categories in the study and implementation of various programs related to the modernization of libraries. The constant growth of the volume, content and quality of library services provided to the users puts forward the requirement for continuous training of library specialists, development of professional skills, regular updating of library knowledge, mastering important and relevant competencies. Therefore, the development of the country’s libraries as information, cultural, educational and leisure centers depends primarily on their staffing and professional readiness of librarians to carry out radical modernization of the industry. In this regard, the issue of library staff development has always been relevant in the activities of libraries. The article considers a number of topical problems with library staff, which should be emphasized: insufficient prestige of the profession, aging of staff, a large proportion of staff without specialized education, the quality of training of library specialists. In addition, the following problems of work with the staff of libraries are also voiced: the lack of continuous professional development activities; de-gradation of professional culture; the state of personnel management in libraries; the image of the profession. Most of these problems remain unresolved and relevant, which characterizes the state of study and measures to eliminate them as unsatisfactory. The necessity of professional development in view of modern trends in the practice of libraries and digitalization processes is considered.
