The objectives of the ATOUS program were to explore ways of articulating forage self-sufficiency and ecosystemic services supply in PDO cheese areas in three mountain grasslands areas. The analysis of various situations and the prominent investment of the different partners in this program have made Hulin S. et al. possible the assembly of a single database, the production of new transversal tools and to take a common look on semi-natural grasslands in these mountains on their diversity, their potential and all services they provide. A social transformation of PDO milk producers on their ecosystemic services consideration was also observed. An illustration of the interest to combine biotechnical approaches and social science was provided, in order to improve our understanding of the forage systems at the territory scale.
