Abstract

From 2017 to 2024, a field trial in the experimental orchard of the Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology Holovousy evaluated the effects of rootstock and grafting height on growth and yield performance of the apricot cultivar ‘Goldrich’. The rootstocks tested were myrobalan 29C (M29C), St. Julien A (ST JA), Wavit, Adesoto 101 (Adesoto), Kuban 86, and MY-KL-A grafted 10 cm above the ground; in parallel, higher-grafted variants M29C KM and ST JA KM grafted 60 cm above ground were assessed. The response variables included cumulative yield, mean fruit weight, trunk cross-sectional area, crown volume, and specific yields normalised to trunk cross-sectional area and crown volume. Data were analysed by ANOVA followed by Tukey’s HSD. The highest cumulative yield over the study period was obtained on M29C irrespective of grafting height, whereas Wavit produced the lowest yield and differed significantly from the other rootstocks. Mean fruit weight was the greatest on ST JA KM and Wavit, and the lowest on M29C KM. Trunk cross-sectional area was the greatest on the higher-grafted variants and the lowest on Wavit, crown volume was without significant differences among rootstocks. Specific yield per trunk cross-sectional area was the highest on Kuban 86 and M29C, and the lowest on ST JA KM. Specific yield per crown volume peaked on M29C KM and was the lowest on Wavit, with no significant differences among rootstocks. Increased grafting height primarily increased trunk cross-sectional area on M29C and ST JA, with no practically relevant effects on the remaining parameters.
