Abstract

Abstract: The thematic section of this issue was born from informal discussions between a handful of researchers in literature, arts, and human and social sciences (LASHS), who teach communication at IUTs. A few of us shared the impression of seeing our professional activity split into two fields that are perfectly watertight from each other: on the one hand, our teaching at the IUT, and on the other, our research. This feeling of a gap between research (its long timeframe, its exploratory dimension, its specific methodology) and the need to produce professional writings, oriented towards a short timeframe, a pragmatic aim, can indeed lead to considering the two fields through the prism of an impossible conciliation. This observation – or at least what appeared to be such at the time – was particularly marked in secondary departments (Computer Science, GEII, Physical Measurements, etc.), where LASHS are often limited to teaching languages, Communication and management, while tertiary departments (Information-Communication, Multimedia and Internet Professions, Marketing Techniques, Social Careers, etc.) integrate LASHS into students specialist courses.
