Abstract

Deoxynivalenol and T-2 toxin inhibit protein synthesis in wheat and maize, hosts for trichothecene-producing strains of Gibberella zeae and Fusarium sporotrichioides which cause wheat head scab and corn ear rot. Demonstration of a specific mechanism of phytotoxicity suggests a role for trichothecenes in plant disease
