Abstract

We fix any bicategory \mathscrA together with a class of morphisms W_\mathscrA, such that there is a bicategory of fractions \mathscrA[W_\mathscrA-1]. Given another such pair (\mathscrB,W_\mathscrB) and any pseudofunctor F:\mathscrA→\mathscrB, we find necessary and sufficient conditions in order to have an induced equivalence of bicategories from \mathscrA[W_\mathscrA-1] to \mathscrB[W_\mathscrB-1]. In particular, this gives necessary and sufficient conditions in order to have an equivalence from any bicategory of fractions \mathscrA[W_\mathscrA-1] to any given bicategory \mathscrB.
