During the Roman period at Salamis, evidence for a cult of the Emperor and a cult of Zeus raises the question of the origin of the latter from the time of the foundation of the city. The archaeological and textual testimony is reviewed ; the various phases of the history of the city are defined ; the link uniting the cult of the tutelary god of the city and the emperor’s cult is analyzed ; in conclusion this paper will review the different parts of the town where such a double cult has been successively established.
