Abstract

The article addresses the awareness of the risks of radicalisation and the possibilities for its prevention among leaders within a national defence organisation, as recorded in a study conducted among volunteer leaders in the Western Defence District of the Estonian Defence League. The study was conducted in 2024 by Marko Mei, a master’s student at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. The findings of the study indicate that, although leaders are aware of the risks of radicalisation, the organisation lacks the systematic approaches and knowledge necessary to address these threats effectively. Therefore, enhancing training programs and developing flexible intervention strategies that encompass both preventive and reactive measures are essential steps toward strengthening the reputation and role of the Estonian Defence League as a security provider.
