Abstract

We present a search for the decays B0\ensuremath→e+e^\ensuremath-, B0\ensuremath→\ensuremathμ+\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath-, and B0\ensuremath→e^\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath∓ in data collected at the \ensuremathΥ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC B Factory. Using a data set of 111 fb^\ensuremath-1, we find no evidence for a signal in any of the three channels investigated and set the following branching fraction upper limits at the 90% confidence level: B(B0\ensuremath→e+e^\ensuremath-)<6.1\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-8, B(B0\ensuremath→\ensuremathμ+\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath-)<8.3\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-8, and B(B0\ensuremath→e^\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath∓)<18\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-8.
