Abstract

We report the first observation of the charmless hyperonic B decay, B⁰\ensuremath→p\ensuremathΛ\ensuremathπ^\ensuremath-, using a 78 fb^\ensuremath-1 data sample recorded on the \ensuremathΥ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. The measured branching fraction is B(B⁰\ensuremath→p\ensuremathΛ\ensuremathπ^\ensuremath-)=(3.97_\ensuremath-0.80^+1.00\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi0.56)\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-6. Searches for B⁰\ensuremath→p\ensuremathΛK^\ensuremath- and p\ensuremathΣ⁰\ensuremathπ^\ensuremath- yield no significant signals and we set 90% confidence-level upper limits of B(B⁰\ensuremath→p\ensuremathΛK^\ensuremath-)<8.2\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-7 and B(B⁰\ensuremath→p\ensuremathΣ⁰\ensuremathπ^\ensuremath-)<3.8\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-6.
