Abstract

Reaction of the potassium salt of nido-carborane with 8-quinolylsulfenyl chloride yielded the 9-(8'-quinolylsulfenyl) derivative of nido-carborane [9‑(НNC9H6-8'-S)-7,8-C2B9H11], treatment of which with a base yielded the anionic derivative [9-(NC9H6-8'-S)-7,8-C2B9H11]–. Complexation of the obtained compounds with [Ni(PPh3)2Cl2] resulted in the formation of the 18-electron half-sandwich nickelacarborane of η5,k1-type [3-PPh3-3-(4-NC9H6-8'-S)-closo-3,1,2-NiC2B9H10]. The proposed structures of the obtained nido-carborane derivatives and the metal complex were confirmed by NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopy, as well as mass spectrometry. The electrochemical properties of the synthesized nickelacarborane [3-PPh3-3-(4-NC9H6-8'-S)-closo-3,1,2-NiC2B9H10] were studied by cyclic voltammetry.
