Abstract

This article looks at the spread of memetic creation in the museum context, through a cross-case study of several French and Canadian heritage institutions. It shows how memes are now part of the communication and mediation strategies of collections, noting a humorous turn in heritage mediation that seems to indicate a softening of the boundary between visitors and web users. The opening up of institutions to the memification of works is becoming a tool for the digital activation of collections, and so an instrument of educational dissemination and innovation in heritage mediation practices.
