In the field of physical education, understanding current peer-reviewed authorship trends can be difficult due to the vast number of journals within which faculty publish. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively describe authorship trends in a sample of journals publishing peer reviewed articles in physical education. A database with 1316 articles and 4997 authors from five journals spanning 2019–2023 was established and evaluated. 3209 unique authors from 67 countries were included, with an average of 3.76 authors per article. Most (n = 2536) authors appeared only once in the sample. Collaborations are highly utilized, representation by international authorship is increasing, and collaborations that involve authors from multiple countries are on the rise. The high number of one-time authorships may suggest a need for improved mentorship in the publication process.
