A large specimen of Neoepinnula minetomai Nakayama, Kimura et Endo, 2014 was newly reported from western Taiwan, representing the first record of its range, which extends approximately 1200 km southward from off Kagoshima to western Taiwan. The specimen agrees well with the type series, with the exception of a slightly smaller head and eye. It is suggested that this species may have a broader distribution in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, but is likely to be an insular species. A checklist of all known gempylid fishes from Taiwan is also provided.
