Abstract

This is an accepted article with a DOI pre-assigned that is not yet published. If heterotopia is used in various practical ways, we suggest that it can lead to a better understanding of Foucault's archeology. We will argue that heterotopia can be understood as a transcendental. Indeed, heterotopia plays a key part in Foucault's conceptualization of the outside, which is why heterotopia plays the role of a transcendental in the archeological method. This paper will read heterotopia in the light of many texts written in the same period, highlighting the key part heterotopia plays in the late 1960s texts. This leads towards a new redefinition of archeology and a renewed understanding of the withdrawal of this concept in the 1970s and 1980s text.
