This chapter examines Pope Francis’s call for synodality as a way of life for the Catholic Church, with a particular focus on the role of women in bringing this vision to reality in India. It builds on Sr. Nathalie Becquart’s concept of women as “an engine of synodality,” exploring how the Church in India can evolve into a participatory, egalitarian, and inclusive institution, particularly in relation to women’s roles. The chapter highlights the experiences, challenges, and contributions of Indian Catholic women, using a feminist theological lens to analyze the gap between the ideal of synodality and the gendered realities women face in India. Furthermore, this chapter proposes multifaceted approaches to promoting women’s participation and leadership in the Catholic Church in India, addressing theological, cultural, and structural barriers. Ultimately, the chapter demonstrates how fostering inclusivity and gender equality can empower women to make meaningful contributions to synodality and the life of the Church.
