Il montre comment les effets graphiques des bulles font partie de la poétique du dessinateur de bande dessinée et combien ils contribuent au potentiel créatif et ludique du genre. By tracing the history of the bubble in comics, the article reveals its proximity to and difference from the phylactery, a much earlier device for depicting a character's words. It shows how the graphic effects of speech bubbles are part of the comic artist's poetics, and how they contribute to the genre's creative and playful potential.
