This Viewpoint looks back at the quirks of fate that, over forty years ago, led its author to become a seller of women-centred books and then to a parallel career as an historian of the British women's suffrage movement. Although never herself a book collector, the author recognises she was in a privileged position, able to be intrigued by and then utilise the facts contained in the quantities of primary material passing through her hands. The result has been the production of 215 bookselling catalogues and the publication of eight books.
