The essays in this volume illumine key aspects of the changing status of women in the church. These essays represent an exceptional mix of scholarly expertise, personal experience, pastoral sensitivity, creativity, and imagination for the future. These pages provide readers with a sense of what it was like to “be in the room” during many key moments of the Synod. They convey feelings of pride, frustration, exhaustion, excitement, disappointment, and hope. While many of the experiences and viewpoints are shared among the authors, these essays are also quite diverse and express differing views on questions related to synodality and how to achieve greater inclusivity in the Church. These differences are not problematic; in fact, they testify to a critical reality to which the Synod gives powerful voice: Women are not a monolithic group, and they do not think the same way on every issue, and perhaps especially, on issues related to women.
