Abstract
El año 2020 ha sido sin duda uno que recordaremos como el más desafiante para nuestra generación, si se le observa desde una perspectiva global. Fue el año en que el mundo se confinó, mientras un virus inició una diáspora que trastornó todas las certezas que alguna vez pensamos tener. Día a día, observamos en las noticias el avance del virus de un continente a otro y el crecimiento de las tasas de fallecimientos por el nuevo coronavirus que se caracteriza por una rápida capacidad de contagio (Mas-Coma, Jones & Marty, 2020; Sohrabi et al., 2020). Los coronavirus suelen causar infecciones respiratorias en el ser humano, las cuales pueden ir desde un resfriado común hasta enfermedades graves como el síndrome respiratorio de Oriente Medio (MERS) o el síndrome respiratorio agudo severo (SARS) (Sohrabi et al., 2020). El virus descubierto en diciembre de 2019, produce la enfermedad COVID-19 (Organización Mundial de la Salud-OMS, 2020) y su principal forma de contagio es a través de gotitas respiratorias expulsadas por una persona que tose o que presenta otros síntomas como fiebre o cansancio, y tiene una alta letalidad en individuos con morbilidades preexistentes (Wang et al., 2020). La rápida propagación del contagio reportada en la ciudad china de Wuhan a fines de 2019 (Lu, Stratton & Tang, 2020; Mas-Coma et al., 2020) fue facilitada por el desconocimiento del virus, la falta de información sobre la enfermedad y la posición de los gobiernos y los ciudadanos sobre las medidas para prevenir la transmisión y contener su transmisión (Sohrabi et al., 2020). Las medidas sugeridas inicialmente por la OMS fueron la detección temprana, el aislamiento social, el rastreo de contactos y el lavado de manos con agua y jabón (OMS, 2020a).
