125Te and 19F NMR spectroscopic study of the hydrolysis of pentafluorotellurium chloride: evidence for trans- and cis-HOTeF4Cl and cis, mer-(HO)2TeF3Cl

Abstract

The hydrolysis of TeF 5 Cl has been followed by 125 Te and 19 F NMR spectroscopy. The spectra show that the known series (HO) n TeF 6−n (n = 2−6) are present. In addition the spectra are consistent with the presence of the previously unreported series (HO) n TeF 5−n Cl (n = 1–3) as well as unidentified fluorotellurium(IV) species. Evidence is presented for the new species trans- and cis-HOTeF 4 Cl and cis, mer-(HO) 2 TeF 3 Cl. The course of the hydrolysis of TeF 5 Cl is compared with that of SF 5 Cl.
