Population density and nutrients availability strongly influences onion growth performance. Field experiments were conducted during 2021 and 2022 rainy seasons to evaluate the effect of Intra-row spacing, varieties and nitrogen on the growth parameters of Onion in Dadinkowa Gombe state. Three (3) row spacing (30cm x 10cm, 30cm x 15cm and 30cm x 20cm) as main-plot, two (2) Varieties (`Yar Rumi and Zobo) were used as sub plot, and four (4) levels of Nitrogen fertilizer (0, 80, 100, and 120kg/ha1) were used as sub-sub plot treatments. These were combined and laid in a Split-split Plot design with 3 replications. The results of the study showed that 30cm x 15 cm was the best on collar girth with 8.14 and 7.07 mm while 30 cm x 10 cm had 7.83 and 6.76 mm respectively. Similar effect was recorded on the leaf area with 68.28 cm and 22.69 cm at 4WAS for the first and second trial respectively. Spacing of 30 x 10 cm recorded the highest value of 4.79 on net assimilation rate while control had 4.52 in the first trial but no significant difference was observed in the second trial. Variety Zobo also recorded the largest value at NAR2 in the first trial with 4.77 while `Yarrumi had 4.53. For nitrogen, 100kg/ha recorded 6.11 and 6.86 at NAR2 and NAR3 respectively while control had 3.10 and 4.18 but no significant difference was observed in the second trial. On nitrogen use efficiency, no significant difference was observed for spacing and variety in both the trials but, highly significant difference was observed between the nitrogen rates where 100kgN/ha and 120kgN/ha recorded values statistically at par with 0.0045 and 0.0041 for 2021 and 2022 respectively while control had 0.0022 and 0.0021. Based on the outcome of these experiments, it could be concluded that 30 x 15 cm spacing, variety Zobo and 100kg/ha-1 were the best and therefore recommended for farmers in the study area.
