Abstract

The text of a nowadays lost inscription, re-used in the Romanesque cathedral of Salzburg, was already delivered in the 16th century ad, but the readings and interpretations cause serious problems. It seems that Iuvavum, a Claudian municipium is mentioned as a Hadrianic colony, but with some small conjectures a collegium fabrum can be restored instead. Also the dating and the conveyed titles of Septimius Severus and Caracalla, conflicting with one another, are discussed.
