Among grain crops, Winter Oilseed rape (WOSR) is known to be attacked by numerous pests and diseases. This leads to an average TFI (Treatment Frequency Index) of 6.1 in 2006. However, because of agronomic interest of this crop and new regulations on pesticide use, we have to re-design new cropping systems which reduce the pesticide utilization. This paper aims at reviewing the scientific references on integrated pest management of winter oilseed rape. Several alternatives pest-control, such as cultural control (avoidance, smothering, branching, push-pull), cultivar resistance and mechanical weeding are described. Thereafter, we illustrate how thanks to a framework of design-assessment, integrated crop management have been re-designed by combining in a logical way these alternative solutions. The assessment of these integrated crop managements is fruitful regarding either to environment criteria or economic ones. Nevertheless, in order to achieve a sustainable reduction of pesticide use, pest management strategies have to be more diversified, which will require not only to produce more knowledge on crop-pests functioning but also to introduce more biodiversity in crop successions, to enhance natural regulation function, to take into account non-crop areas and to work at landscape level.
