Forty-six years of bird monitoring using nest boxes in Ombret wood (Meuse valley, Belgium)

Abstract

The results of ringing in nest box in a mainly coniferous wood are analyzed for several Tits and the Eurasian nuthatch Sitta europea. All Tits and the Nuthatch brought their nesting forward by two weeks during the monitoring period. This is linked to the rise in temperature in March. Various aspects are also presented, such as nest mix, nest size, ring recoveries and a particular weatherrelated event in 2017. The negative evolution of the less common tits (Coal Tit Periparus ater, Marsh Tit Poecile palustris and Crested Tit Lophophanes cristatus) is raised.
