Recently, complete checklists have begun to be used for the long-term monitoring of bird populations. At the moment there are relatively few such lists, though their numbers are increasing. Yet, in only a few years, the data which are available have enabled the discovery and characterisation of several aspects of bird phenology. In Belgium the harsh Spring of 2021 had a visible effect on the dates of return of migrant species (or the dates of their first Springtime sightings). It is our hope that the following brief analysis will encourage bird watchers to take the trouble to make complete checklists all the yearlong. In future years this will enable a more detailed analysis of ornithological phenomena in our country.
