Abstract

This note is one of a series of reports on studies conducted on the Mark XI houses. These homes have been the subject of a joint project between DBR and the Housing and Urban Development Association of Canada (HUDAC). The fan pressurization method was used to measure the air tightness of all four houses. The upgraded houses were found to be significantly tighter than the standard house. Tracer gas was used to determine the air infiltration rates of the standard house and one upgraded house. At low wind speeds the infiltration rate was found to be proportional to the inside to outside temperature difference. At higher wind speeds temperature difference becomes less significant.
