The article presents materials collected over the last 15 years and showing the advantages of an interdisciplinary approach to the study of children’s reading. The authors cite data from various sociological, psychological, pedagogical and library studies conducted by researchers (sociologists, psychologists and librarians) The Russian State Children’s Library. The key trends in reading of the younger generation are shown, taking into account a number of global trends, as well as the processes of internetization and computerization. It is emphasized that it is a broad view of such a complex phenomenon as reading, including children’s reading, that allows us to see its new facets and formulate some perspectives.
