Abstract

Fire research programs in Canada relating to plastics in the built environment are reviewed. The paper describes two projects (conducted under a Research Fellowship sponsored jointly by SPI of Canada and the National Research Council) in which the problems concerned with the penetration of fire separations by plastic pipe and the spread of fire in cavity walls containing foam plastics were investigated. It also deals with the modifications made to the Steiner Tunnel test when used to assess flammability of plastics, evaluation of toxicity of fire effluents and some full-scale experiments planned for a new field station.
