Aim: To assess the accuracy of clinical staging in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer, as well as its impact on the type of treatment and associated factors Study Design: Retrospective. Material and Methods: Review of patients submitted to total laryngectomy, between 2013 and 2021. Results: There were 54 patients, almost all males and with a mean age of 61 years-old. There was a discrepancy between clinical and pathological of overall stage in 17 cases. There was greater accuracy of diagnosis of pre-epiglottic space, anterior commissure, cricoid cartilage, contralateral and extra-laringeal invasion, as opposed to invasion of paraglottic and thyroid cartilage. Conclusions: The correct characterization of this type of tumor requires greater accuracy in the diagnostic evaluation of the paraglottic space and in the invasion of the thyroid cartilage.
