Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common cardiac disorder in newborns of diabetic mothers. The incidence, underestimated due to asymptomatic forms, varies between 30 and 40%.HCM is induced by foetal hyperinsulinism secondary to maternal hyperglycemia. It is characterized by ypertrophy of the interventricular septum (IVS) and free ventricular walls.HCM can be asymptomatic and noted on cardiac ultrasound or manifest as congestive heart failure. Regardless of its severity, HCM is transient with echocardiographic resolution around six months of age.Treatment of HCM relies on β-adrenergic blockers to slow heart rate and maximize diastolic filling time. Rarely, in cases of severe hemodynamic instability, hemodynamic support may be warranted. Oxygenation by venous-arterial extracorporeal membrane remains the last resort.
