This study aims to analyze and synthesize the available evidence in the scientific literature regarding the role of social determinants in the use of psychoactive substances among adult men. Considering that harmful drug use is a multifaceted phenomenon conditioned by socioeconomic, cultural, and environmental factors, the research adopts the Overview methodology, based on the principles of systematic reviews. The databases CINAHL (via EBSCOHost), Embase, MEDLINe/PUBMED (via National Library of Medicine), Scopus, and Web of Science were consulted, using a search strategy that included structured vocabulary from DeCS/MeSH articulated through Boolean operators with relevant keywords related to social determinants, substance use, and systematic reviews. Inclusion criteria included articles published in the last five years, in English, Portuguese, or Spanish, that specifically addressed social, environmental, family, and health service access factors associated with drug use patterns in this population. The analysis sought to identify patterns, gaps, and intersections between different dimensions of social determinants, contributing to a comprehensive view of the problem and the development of more effective public health interventions. The study is justified by the importance of understanding social determinants as underlying causes of substance abuse, enabling public policies and care strategies that consider the social and structural conditions that shape individual health.
